Job Description:

The Outpatient Clinical Pharmacist-Oncology provides comprehensive care to oncology patients in an outpatient/ambulatory setting. This role collaborates with oncologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to optimize chemotherapy and supportive care regimens, ensure medication safety and efficacy, and improve patient outcomes. Additional oncology specific responsibilities include oral chemotherapy monitoring, symptom management, and adherence counseling while participating in clinical research and quality improvement initiatives.

This position will also be responsible for performing the clinical duties assisting with outpatient specialty pharmacy operations at the University of Toledo in a manner that promotes high-quality, cost effective, professional standards of service. This pharmacist is knowledgeable about the prior authorization process for various insurance plans, insurance coverage, and available community and charitable resources for patients requiring oncology medication therapy and oversees the utilization of these resources through the specialty pharmacy program.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualifications/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Education/experience/licensing:
• Graduate of accredited pharmacy school
• Must hold current and unrestricted Ohio Pharmacist License
• PGY-1 residency or 3 years of clinical pharmacy practice required
• PGY-2 residency or 3 years of oncology experience preferred
• Board certification or specialty certification required within 4 years of hire; pursuant to medical staff credentialing requirements
• Immunization certification required
• Strong computer skills required
• Skilled and knowledgeable regarding prescription benefit third party insurance billing
• Knowledgeable in physical, chemical, and pharmacological aspects of pharmacy practice with special interest and ability to develop and implement innovative pharmacy practice models and programming

Communication and other skills:
• Must be self-directed, motivated and capable of leading supportive personnel
• Should be able to work well with the public and other health professionals
• Must have effective interpersonal and communication skills
• Utilizes effective communication to provide excellent customer service
• Demonstrates effective and culturally appropriate communications
• Able to train, evaluate and supervise professional and technical personnel and staff
