Job Description:

Provide diagnostic and treatment planning/remediation for speech, language, swallowing and communicative-cognitive impairments in individuals of all ages throughout the continuum of care.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education/experience/licensing:
• Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology.
• Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Speech Pathology from the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association or a Clinical Fellow in process of obtaining CCC’s.
• Licensed Speech Pathologist by the State of Ohio or has a conditional license, and in their Professional Experience Year (PEY).
• Knowledge of the ASHA Code of Ethics and commitment to carry out Speech-Language Pathology Services in accordance with this code.
• Obtains/maintains Basic Life Support Certification (CPR).
• Passes annual safety test.
• Achieves competencies for assigned work area as dictated by director (i.e., age specific, suctioning, aseptic technique).


Communication and other skills:
• Demonstrate good written documentation of speech treatment to provide continuity of care and payment for services rendered.
• Good written and verbal communication skills to allow the speech pathologist to functions as a contributing interdisciplinary team member.
• Knowledge of the ASHA code of ethics, and commitment to carry out Speech-Language Pathology Services in accordance with this code.
• Knowledge of professional and legal requirements for the provision of Speech-Language Pathology Services.
• Adheres to UTMC service values.

Physical Requirements:

1) Visual acuity of 20/20 or corrected to 20/20 including color vision when applicable;
2) Ability to hear (with or without aides);
3) Ability to orally communicate;
4) Good manual dexterity;
5) Ability to push, pull, roll, and transfer/lift 50 pounds occasionally;
6) Ability to stand, walk frequently;
7) Ability to bend, reach, stoop, kneel frequently;
8) Ability to perform CPR (if a required for position).


Reporting Relationships

This position will report to the Director of Therapy Services..


Working Conditions

Work in assigned area (Hospital, Rehab Center, or Outpatient Center) up to 40 hours per week; evening hours may be required as well as weekend and holiday rotation. Standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, bending, stooping and lifting may be required. Exposure to biologically hazardous and various weather situations is possible. May work with patients from adolescence to geriatric.
