Job Description:
In collaboration with the Director of Academic Success and Bar Preparation, the Program Manager, Academic Success and Bar Prep is responsible for assisting with implementing the College of Law’s academic success and bar preparation program to promote successful student learning outcomes and bar pass rates. The main function of this position is providing advising and support to law students on academic issues and bar preparation to help them succeed. This position will develop, coordinate, and implement academic success and bar preparation programs on topics like critical reading, legal analysis, time management, test taking, and study habits. The Program Manager will also provide targeted support to students and bar takers who need additional assistance by helping them identify areas in need of improvement and formulating strategies based on the individual’s needs.
The Program Manager, Academic Success & Bar Prep will provide advising support to law students on academic issues and bar preparation to help them succeed, develop, coordinate, and implement academic success and bar preparation programs, provide targeted support to students and bar takers who need additional assistance by helping them identify areas in need of improvement and formulating strategies based on the individual’s needs, create academic success and bar preparation resources for use by law students, bar takers, and faculty, and track and analyze academic and bar pass data to provide reports on academic success efforts and bar taker progress. This position is critical in the retention of students at the University of Toledo College of Law, in helping to maintain accreditation by supporting bar pass efforts and provides data that helps inform administrators and faculty when determining curricular needs.
The Program Manager, Academic Success & Bar Prep reports directly to the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and in addition, may receive work direction from the Dean of the College of Law and Director of Academic Success and Bar Preparation. This position may assist with supervision of student workers and there are currently no positions that report directly to this position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education/experience/licensing:
• Juris doctor degree from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school required.
• Evidence of high academic achievement in the law school setting required.
• Bar license required.
Communication and other skills:
• Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Must be able to work independently and as a member of a team.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and trust in handling student and graduate records, confidential memoranda, and personal interactions.
• Superior interpersonal, team-building, and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize.
• Professional business manner.
• Some seasonal travel is required.
• Ability to work beyond standard business hours to attend events and functions as needed.
• Computer proficiency (including Microsoft Office) and ability to learn new programs.
• Ability to meet consistent attendance.
• Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors, students, faculty, and customers face to face and remotely.
