Job Description:

The Department of Surgery at the University of Toledo Medical Center invites applications for the full-time position as Associate Professor/Professor and Chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery. Candidates should be a board certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and eligible for licensure in the State of Ohio.  

The Chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery has responsibility overseeing the CT service line at UTMC.  He/She should also have a demonstrated track record of leadership and academic productivity. Qualified candidates will have credentials and experience at the level of an Associate Professor or Professor. The successful candidate will be a surgeon-educator or surgeon-scientist with a well-established history of academic commitment and mentorship. He/She will promote education and research collaborations across the institution and community, attract and develop diverse and qualified faculty, oversee clinical and administrative activities of the cardiothoracic program, and enhance the education of medical students, residents, and fellows. The Chief will be responsible for academic activities including teaching of medical students, residents and fellows; research; and related service duties. Leadership and communication skills are important, and there are great opportunities for innovative, educational, as well as, translational or basic research at The University of Toledo.

Responsibilities:

• Provide direct patient care with the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, meeting the standard care expected of the Department of Surgery.
• Participating in academic activities including teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows; research
• Conducting clinical research trials and other assignments according to the needs of the Department

Minimum Qualifications:

• Board certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, eligibility for licensure in the State of Ohio
• Successful completion of a residency program or fellowship (if applicable)
• Demonstrated track record of leadership and academic productivity
• Credentials and experience at the level of an Assistant or Associate Professor, Medical Director and/or Chief
• Strong leadership and communication skills
