Job Description:
The Senior Internal Auditor at the University of Toledo performs independent, high-level audits to support effective management oversight and institutional accountability across the entire University. Working with minimal supervision, under direction of the Chief Auditor, or Assistant Director, this position leads and performs a wide range of audits, including operational, financial, and compliance audits—as well as providing advisory services to University Management, all in accordance with Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Standards and University policy.
Key responsibilities include performing risk assessments, drafting risked based audit programs; obtaining, analyzing, and appraising evidentiary data; and forming well-supported opinions and assurances on the adequacy of internal controls and compliance with university policies, procedures, laws, and regulations. The auditor prepares detailed written reports, delivers oral presentations of findings, and performs follow-up reviews to ensure corrective actions have been implemented.
This role also involves analyzing complex financial data, identifying areas of risk, and recommending improvements to enhance efficiency and compliance. The Senior Auditor provides guidance, mentoring, and best practice implementation for staff auditors to enhance the staff auditors’ contributions to the development and execution of the annual audit plan. This role requires sound judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a dynamic academic environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum of three (3) years of audit experience.
Skills and Abilities:
• Strong understanding of internal controls
• Excellent report writing skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Software, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Experience in computer assisted audit techniques using data analytics software
• Experience in risk assessments and risk management activities
• Strong understanding of internal audit standards, risk assessment methodologies, and control frameworks.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex information to diverse audiences.
• Proficiency in audit software and data analytics tools.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Strong ethical standards and integrity
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), or other relevant certifications are preferred
- Experience in a university or healthcare environment is preferred.
