Job Description:

The Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Toledo Medical College of Medicine and life science is seeking An Emergency Medicine Physician, a board certified or board eligible candidate who has completed residency training in Emergency Medicine This position offers a unique opportunity to build upon the recent academic affiliation of University of Toledo COMLS (UT) with a large vibrant community hospital that has expanded our opportunities for our fellows, residents, and students; to increase the number and expertise of the full-time faculty; and to enhance our growing research endeavors.


The Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences has made significant strides in enhancing patient care, integrating teams, and expanding its impact within the Toledo community and Northwest Ohio. Our residents and faculty serve patients across two major trauma centers: the Level 1 Trauma Center at Toledo Hospital and Ebeid Children’s Hospital Emergency Department, with an annual patient volume of 105,000, and the Level 2 Trauma Center at the University of Toledo Medical Center (UTMC). These facilities collectively support a high-volume, dynamic emergency department, handling a broad spectrum of high-acuity cases and providing critical, time-sensitive care.


Responsibilities:

  • Provide immediate medical care to patients presenting with urgent or emergent conditions.
  • Perform thorough assessments including history taking, physical examinations, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans, prescribe medications, and perform necessary procedures (e.g., suturing, intubation, central line placement, etc.).
  • Collaborate with nurses, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care.
  • Stabilize critically ill or injured patients and determine appropriate disposition (admission, transfer, or discharge).
  • Ensure accurate, timely documentation of clinical encounters in the electronic medical record.
  • Supervise and mentor residents, medical students, or advanced practice providers as needed.
  • Comply with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Medicine or Doctor or Osteopathic Medicine Required
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible by the American Board of Emergency Medicine
  • Current and unrestricted licensure in the State of Ohio required, prior to beginning the position.
  • At least 5 years of clinical experience.
  • Valid DEA license.
  • ACLS, PALS, and ATLS certification preferred.
  • Excellent clinical judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
