Job Description:
This role is responsible for managing Health Information Management (HIM) functions including the processing of legal medical documents and requests, coding and documentation compliance and document scanning entered into the electronic medical record. This role is also responsible to ensure privacy and confidentiality of patient and institutional data for UTMC. Also assists medical and administrative leadership in evaluating and designing the quality and appropriateness of health information services for patients and health care services
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in health information management, Business Administration, or related field is required; master’s degree preferred.
• Certification as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or Certified Coding Specialist–Physician-based (CCS-P) required. Additional certifications (e.g., RHIA, RHIT) a plus. HEMA certification is preferred.
• Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in coding and health information management, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role.
• Expertise in ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS coding, and clinical documentation improvement (CDI).
• Experience managing outsourced coding agencies and vendor relationships.
• Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations, billing, reimbursement processes, and compliance requirements.
• Proven ability to lead and motivate a team, with excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Must have advanced working knowledge of Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and coding software.
