Job Description:
The Office of Accessibility and disability Resources supports the academic mission of The University of Toledo and is committed to facilitating access for disabled students for an equitable and inclusive university experience. Access and accommodations are mandated by Section 504 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This position is responsible for managing a large caseload of students, interpreting, and analyzing incoming medical and psychological documentation for eligibility of services from students, schools, health care professionals and others, and conducting prospective, initial, and check-in appointments with students to identify reasonable and appropriate accommodations in the higher education setting. This position provides consultation, advocacy, and coordination of accommodations for students by collaborating with colleges, faculty, and other university departments to ensure proper implementation of reasonable accommodations. This position requires a high level of professional judgement as disability accommodations are legally mandated and must be balanced with ensuring that accommodations do not fundamentally alter the essential function of course objectives and university requirements. This position handles confidential and sensitive information such as psychological and medical reports as well as educational records protected under FERPA.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education/experience/licensing:
1. Bachelor' Degree required. (Master's Degree preferred) in Rehabilitation Counseling, School Psychology, social work, Disability Studies or related field.
2. Two to four (2-4) years of experience working in disability Services is required.
3. Two to four (2-4) years of experience in a post-secondary environment.
4. Working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the most current versions of the DSM and ICD.
Communication and other skills:
1. Effective communication, excellent oral and written communication skills; interpersonal skills sufficient to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a diverse student, staff, and faculty population.
2. Strong time management and organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
3. Experience in working the Microsoft Office Suite.
4. Working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the most current versions of the DSM and ICD.
