Job Description:

The position will entail assisting in designing and executing research that involves human subjects as well as experiments that does not involve human subjects. Duties may include activities like neuropsychological and neurophysiological testing in person or on-line, directed literature search, attending scientific and study related meetings, budget preparation, working with appropriate institutional officials for the smooth approval and conduct of research studies, working and training student research assistants, obtaining vital signs, processing biological samples, scheduling and rescheduling experiments, meeting and greeting human subjects, obtaining informed consent, documentation for consent, preparing for site monitoring visits, preparation and submission of IRB applications, budgets, protocol amendments, obtaining information regarding concomitant medications, adverse events and complying with institutional, state, federal and local policies besides completing and maintaining CITI human subject protection certification. Duties with experiments that do not involve human subjects include research experiments in animal models of Parkinson's disease and related disorders, laboratory equipment management, obtaining neurophysiological measurements, behavioral testing, microdialysis, chemogenic and optogenetic modulation, maintaining and caring for experimental animals, preparation of research analysis, manuscripts, attending regular safety and compliance meetings and ensuring high quality data from research experiments. All aspects of any experimentation will be supervised by the PI and senior research staff until competency is established.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education/experience/licensing:
Required: High school diploma.
Preferred: Current UT student.
Preferred: Experience with animal handling.
Preferred: Experience with bench laboratory techniques.

Communication and other skills:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills (in English)
Ability to work cooperatively with a multidisciplinary research team
Ability to perform duties with meticulousness and care, under guidance from the PI and others
Ability to perform mathematical calculations and data organization

Preferred Qualifications:

Although preference will be given to candidates with experience in animal behavior and lab bench techniques, candidates who are motivated to learn these experimental techniques should apply for this position.
