Job Description:

The Supervisor, Marketing and Communications, leads all marketing and communications efforts for the College of Law. This role also works to enhance the University of Toledo College of Law’s marketing efforts connected with student recruiting, its reputation among judges and lawyers, and recognition of its exceptional faculty and program of legal education in the broader legal education community. Using a mix of internal and external resources, the supervisor oversees the College’s communications and marketing functions, working closely with the College Dean, Assistant Dean of Admissions and the VP of Marketing and Communications. The supervisor facilitates discussions of the College’s brand. The supervisor drafts press releases and stories for inclusion on the College web site, oversees the production of College’s annual alumni magazine, supervises the College’s Marketing & Events Coordinator and guides the improvement of the College’s web site, manages all social media accounts associated with the College, and organizes speakers, conferences, and other events to increase engagement between the College, the community, and members of the legal profession.

This position coordinates publicity and public relations and serves as liaison with the University’s Public Information Office, facilitates and coordinates public relations and marketing efforts aimed at increasing the College’s reputation and at attracting potential students to the College, manages the College’s admissions marketing efforts, publicizes successes of the College’s faculty and students, cultivates relationships with print, television, and radio media, oversees publication of the College’s alumni magazine and other alumni and student publications both in electronic and hard copy, distributes student E-News on a weekly or biweekly basis and identifies and executes campaigns each fall aimed to influence voters in external rankings, including by producing mailers distributed to those voters.

This position supervises department personnel and oversee web-based communications, including managing the College of Law’s web site, web-based calendar, and intranet site, with a focus on supporting the College of Law’s admissions efforts. This role is nontechnical in nature, but the position involves extensive efforts to improve the College’s web presence on a continuous basis. This role also drafts stories for inclusion on college web site, works with promotions specialist, University Marketing & Communications, and external vendors to improve the user experience for visitors to the web site, manages all College social media accounts, with a focus on supporting the College’s admissions efforts, regularly uses social media to disseminate information about college events and faculty successes, monitors discussions of the College on social media platforms and ensures the web site is in full compliance with ADA requirements.

The Marketing and Communications Supervisor solicits and develops plans for speakers, lecturers, and conferences, coordinating details and associated publicity. Prepare press releases and program brochures for special events, plays lead role in planning and coordinating such events, including
assisting in procuring catering and other support services and ensuring travel arrangements for speakers are properly administered, works closely with community organizations and legal professional societies to craft external relations for the College and generate interest and enthusiasm for college of law programs.

This position provides key leadership and oversight of the College of Law’s communications to promote the reputation of the College and allowing it to attract well prepared students. This position plays a key role in the College’s admissions efforts. The College’s interaction with the local community and national academic community affects both the job outcomes of students and the rankings of the College, which directly impact student recruitment. The College’s web and social media presence are essential for attracting potential applicants and enrolling more students in the J.D. program.

This position reports directly to the Dean, with dotted line reporting to the VP of Marketing and Communication. The position may take work direction from Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, Assistant Dean of Admissions, Director of the Office of Professional Development, and law school faculty members.

This position supervises a promotions specialist.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education/Experience/Licensing:

• Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or related field
• Three to five (3-5) years of marketing, communications, journalism, enrollment management, or
equivalent experience.
• Demonstrated skills in public relations, social media, website development, and brand
management.
• Demonstrated ability to create and implement marketing and communications plans.

Communication and Other skills:
• Exceptional writing ability
• Excellent verbal communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interface with a diverse and wide range of people,
including public and private agencies, law firms, attorneys, law school and college communities.
• Ability to successfully manage and balance competing expectations.
• Must have the ability to, as well as meet the requirements to complete and maintain mandatory
training per the University mandatory training policy pursuant to the deadlines set forth therein

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with law firms, lawyers, and higher education preferred.
• Some supervisory experience preferred.
