Job Description:

Library Media Technical Assistants provide support in the areas of customer service, acquisitions, cataloging, circulation, interlibrary loan, collection maintenance, and records management.

Customer service responsibilities include aiding patrons at our service desks. Duties include providing research and reference services to students and other patrons, circulating materials to borrowers, aiding patrons in locating print and electronic materials, and referring as appropriate. Excellent customer service and a strong understanding of library policy and practice is a must.

Position is responsible for assisting with the maintenance of the library’s print, electronic, microform, and media collections, including the processing of materials and maintenance of the collections.

This position has a high level of responsibility in that it ensures patrons receive accurate information and proper instruction on the use of information resources.

Due to the dynamic nature of the library environment duties will vary depending on operational needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education/experience/licensing:
• 3 courses in library practices or procedures or 3 months library experience
• 100 hours in training in the use of computers or 1 month equivalent experience
• 3 courses in supervision or 3 months experience

Communication and other skills:
• Proven history of offering excellent customer service
• Effective written and oral communication skills
• Evidence of ability to work well with diverse populations
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Evidence of problem solving and decision making skill
• Demonstrated knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite
• Proven ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, faculty, staff, and students
• Ability to organize manual and electronic records
• Ability to work under pressure
• Ability to perform detail-oriented work efficiently and accurately

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in a library cataloging department
• Customer service experience
• Experience with library circulation and course reserves
• Experience using Innovative Interfaces online library system
• Some post-secondary education
