Job Description:

Under general supervision of the Surgery Clinic Manager, the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Coordinator (MBS) provides oversight and guidance in program development, managing the accreditation process, ensuring continuous compliance with MBSAQIP Standards, maintaining relevant pathways and protocols, patient education, monitoring outcomes data and collection, quality improvement initiatives, and the education of staff with a focus on metabolic and bariatric patient safety. The MBS coordinator supports the development of written protocols and education of nursing staff detailing rapid communication and basic response to critical patient findings that are specifically required to minimize delays in the diagnosis and treatment of serious adverse events. The MBS Coordinator serves as the liaison between the facility and all metabolic and bariatric proceduralists at the center and any general surgeons providing call coverage. The MBS Coordinator assist in maintaining the documentation of the call schedule provided by all covering surgeons, as well as providing access to the call schedule to all departments of the facility that provide care for metabolic and bariatric patients. The MBS Coordinator must work closely with the MBS Clinical Reviewer and ensure timely submission of outcomes data to the MBSAQIP Registry. The MBS Coordinator will assure appropriate and continual care of patients through verbal communication with members of the health care team as well as written documentation in the medical record. Care provided is age-specific and addresses cultural/religious considerations.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in dietetics or food and nutrition with dietetic internship OR Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Current license in state of Ohio to practice dietetics as provided by the Ohio Board of Dietetics OR current license in state of Ohio as a Registered Nurse.
One-year work experience in hospital setting as RD, LD, or RN required.
American Heart Association Health Care Provider BLS. American Red Cross “CPR for Professional Rescuers” will be accepted at time of hire only. Certification must be active at time of hire and maintained throughout employment in position.
