Job Description:
Under the general direction of the Principal Investigator, the Senior Research Associate serves as an independent researcher using state-of-the-art proteomics capabilities to investigate the pathogenesis of disease within a multi-scholar research environment. Provides leadership and responsibility for key outcomes related to method development for Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometric analyses of proteins, lipids and other metabolites as well as MALDI imaging of proteins, lipids, and other metabolites. This position is responsible for designing and performing experiments independently, identifying research pitfalls, supervising junior researchers and trainees, managing the laboratory, preparing drafts of manuscripts for publication, actively participate in the preparation of grant applications to help fund the research as well as maintain laboratory protocols including IRB, IACUC, and Biosafety. This will require independent judgment and decision making on a regular basis.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education/experience/licensing:
MS or Ph.D. degree in analytical chemistry (or equivalent) required, with emphasis in mass spectrometry of organic compounds with 3-4 years of laboratory experience preferred.
While on the job training is available for entry level position, candidates with working knowledge and experience in extraction methods from biological samples using solid phase or liquid-liquid methods and in LC-MS and HPLC methods as well as MALDI-imaging method development are preferable.
Communication and other skills:
Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate with other laboratory workers.
Must be motivated and capable of working independently as well as collaboratively.
