The program utilizes the comprehensive facilities located on the university’s Main and Health Science campuses that include the Motion Analysis and Integrative Neurophysiology Lab, the University of Toledo Medical Center, the Interprofessional Immersive Simulation Center, and the Hillebrand Clinical Skills Center. The opportunity for collaborative research exists within the College of Health and Human Services, and with the other colleges of the university.

Fostering Literate Youth (FLY) Program Seeking Literacy Tutors: At Old Orchard Elementary School (grades 4-8) $20/hr. Fall Session: October 10, 2022 – December 15, 2022 Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 3:00pm to 5:00 pm Academic Year: Mondays – Thursdays, 3:00 – 5:00pm Fall Session: Oct. 10 – Dec. 15, 2022 Spring Session: Jan. 17 – Feb. 23 & March 20 – April 28, 2023 Responsibilities include: • Assessing 4th-8th grade students to determine literacy strengths and challenges • Planning and enacting literacy tutoring sessions based on students’ interests and needs • Communicating with parents/caregivers and students’ classroom teachers • Creating “FLY packs” – weekly take-home materials • Maintain a growth mindset toward student learning and teaching practice • Facilitate problem-solving with a curious mind and critical thinking skills • Collaborate effectively with parents and the program leadership team to increase student performance Requirements and skills • Successful completion of CI 3430 or 3440 or equivalent 3-credit hour phonics class and completion of CI 4470 (Literacy Assessment & Remediation) or equivalent (e.g., CI 6430) • Patient, flexible, positive, consistent, dependable and cooperative with a sense of humor • Ability to take supervision and correction constructively • Ability to positively supervise students • Capacity to continue tutoring during the academic year (after school hours) preferred • Background check (will be paid for by the program) For questions, please email susanna.hapgood@utoledo.edu
