The Department of Surgery at the University of Toledo Medical Center invites applications for the full-time position as Assistant Professor of the Division of General Surgery. Candidates should be a board certified by the American Board of Surgery and eligible for licensure in the State of Ohio. Candidates for the position of Assistant Professor of General Surgery have responsibility for covering the General Surgery service line at the University of Toledo Medical Center, an academic level II Trauma Center. He/She should also have a demonstrated track record of leadership and academic productivity. Qualified candidates will have credentials and experience at the level of an Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will be a surgeon-educator or surgeon-scientist with a well-established history of academic commitment and mentorship. He/She will be responsible for academic activities including teaching of medical students and residents; research; and related service duties. Leadership and communication skills are important, and there are great opportunities for innovative, educational, along with, translational or basic research at The University of Toledo. Toledo is Ohio’s fourth largest city with a metro area population of 600,000. It provides important small-town advantages such as convenience and a low cost of living. Math Tutor Position, Escuela SMART Academy (part of ODE-funded 2-year grant) Description: • Hiring for the Fall and Spring semesters • Commitment is to work one semester, with encouragement to continue into next semester pending success • 6-10 hours/week (training weeks = 10 hours/week; fall and spring tutoring = 6 hours/week) • $20/hour Responsibilities include: • Consistent attendance for all tutoring sessions required (except for illness or emergency) • Participate in ongoing professional development in effective tutoring, math and art integration, led by TutorSmart coaches and UToledo JHCOE professors • Work with teachers and tutoring supervisors to assess K-6th grade students to determine math strengths and challenges • Plan and enact math tutoring sessions based on students’ interests and needs • Work with team to develop art integration and math lessons • Communicate with parents/caregivers and students’ classroom teachers • Create weekly take-home family notes, including follow-up activities • Maintain a growth mindset toward student learning and teaching practice • Facilitate problem-solving with a curious mind and critical thinking skills Requirements: • High school diploma (or equivalent)—some college experience preferred • Skills & knowledge in teaching, math, art, and/or Spanish • Patient, flexible, positive, consistent, dependable and cooperative with a sense of humor • Ability to supervise students positively • Ability to take supervision and correction constructively • Commitment to consistent attendance through semester • Background check (will be paid for by the program) Contact: Dr. Lynne Hamer, 419-283-8288 and lynne.hamer@utoledo.edu

Senior Research Associate (Department of Medicine) in Health Science Campus College
Under the general direction of the Principal Investigator, the Senior Research Associate serves as an independent researcher using state-of-the-art proteomics capabilities to investigate the pathogenesis of disease within a multi-scholar research environment. Provides leadership and responsibility for key outcomes related to method development for Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometric analyses of proteins, lipids and other metabolites as well as MALDI imaging of proteins, lipids, and other metabolites. This position is responsible for designing and performing experiments independently, identifying research pitfalls, supervising junior researchers and trainees, managing the laboratory, preparing drafts of manuscripts for publication, actively participate in the preparation of grant applications to help fund the research as well as maintain laboratory protocols including IRB, IACUC, and Biosafety. This will require independent judgment and decision making on a regular basis.
