Job Description:
The Lab Research Assistant performs a variety of technical duties in support of research-oriented activities. This role assists with daily laboratory operations, sample processing, routine experiments, data collection, documentation, and maintenance of laboratory supplies and equipment. The position works under general supervision and requires strong attention to detail, organization, and the ability to follow established protocols.
Minimum Qualifications:
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
• Assist with research procedures and routine laboratory experiments.
• Prepare solutions, reagents, and lab materials.
• Collect, label, process, and organize samples according to protocol.
• Maintain laboratory records, logs, and data files.
• Operate standard laboratory equipment and assist with setup and cleanup.
• Monitor inventory and report supply needs.
• Assist with analysis, reporting, and preparation of summaries or figures as requested.
• Support lab meetings and general research-related administrative tasks.

Impact on the Organization
This position supports the research mission of the Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology by contributing to the successful execution of funded research projects. The role directly impacts the quality, accuracy, and timeliness of experimental data generated within the laboratory. The position does not have budgetary responsibility or supervisory authority but contributes to the efficient operation of laboratory research activities and compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline or equivalent experience.
• Experience in research, clinical, or laboratory setting preferred.
• Familiarity with basic lab procedures (including pipetting, solution preparation, sample handling, sterile technique, and laboratory safety procedures.
• Familiarity with molecular biology, cell culture, microscopy, immunohistochemistry, ELISA, PCR, Western blotting, or related techniques preferred), sample handling, and data entry.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
