Job Description:

The primary responsibility of the Research Associate is to develop and conduct computational simulations to demonstrate the efficacy of a steady-state reaction device. This role requires expertise in computational fluid dynamics (CFD), thermomechanical analysis, and reactive species modeling. The incumbent will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-PI to formulate and implement changes to the computational models and redesign the primary reactor to achieve the desired results. This position is funded by an awarded contract to The University of Toledo by the Office of Naval Research, “Effusion Cooling for Hypersonic Ground Testing.”

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualifications/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Applicant must be a US citizen.
• Proficient in developing and conducting computational simulations using CFD, thermomechanical analysis, and reactive species modeling.
• Familiar with defining and implementing computational models and algorithms.
• Proficient in data analysis and reduction techniques, including the use of relevant software tools.
• Experience with software development and integration of simulation tools into computational workflows.


Education/Experience/Licensing:
• M.S. required; M.A. preferred in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or related field.
• MS thesis (ChemE/MechE) or prior job experience in CFD, familiarity with tools (Fluent, Solidworks).


Communication and Other skills:
• Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
• Proficiency in computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office are required.
• Excellent problem-solving skills are required.
• Must have the ability to meet the requirements of and complete/maintain mandatory training per the University mandatory training policy pursuant to the deadlines set forth therein.

Preferred Qualifications:

M.A. preferred in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or related field.
