Job Description:

Ensure the financial stability and lawfulness of the University of Toledo Medical Center by adhering to collection guidelines/criteria as well as maintaining compliance with self-pay payers in regards to federal, state, local and private regulations. Works with Pre-Cert, Admitting, Health Information Management, Outcomes Management, and other front end vendors to develop sound financial arrangements for uninsured or underinsured patients. Works with inpatient and ambulatory care services with the interpretation and administration of the Financial Clearance Policy. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Associate degree in business or related field or equivalent experience performing Financial Counseling functions.
High school diploma or equivalent required
Bachelor’s degree in business preferred or 3-5 years of experience performing Financial Counseling functions required.

2. Demonstrated ability to multi-task and work with minimal supervision

3. Knowledge of medical terminology, patient billing, collection policies, procedures, guidelines and/or standards

4. Knowledgeable in University of Toledo Charity Application process.

5. Able to calculation percentages and assess proof of income in order to accurately determine income level. Must possess excellent analytical and problem solving skills.

6. Proficient in Word and Excel required

7. Knowledge of information system and healthcare applications required
