Job Description:

The Manager of Tax Compliance contributes to the fulfillment of the university's mission and vision by ensuring compliance with all applicable tax laws, rules, and regulations. The Manager of Tax Compliance responsibilities include but are not limited to preparing or reviewing all tax filings; serving as the primary resource for tax-related matters; ensuring the accuracy of tax-related ledger accounts; creating and managing database queries for reporting purposes; exercising discretion and professional judgment; and identifying and implementing process improvements.


Responsibilities include:

  • Ensures regulatory compliance related to tax matters.
  • Serves as the primary resource and technical expert for tax-related issues and provides guidance to departments and administrators on matters that may impact their areas.
  • Provides input on the development and implementation of tax planning strategies.
  • Reviews and documents processes to improve productivity and efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree required in Accounting, Finance, or related business field.
• A minimum of ten (10) years of directly related work experience in Payroll, Accounting, Audit, or Finance with a strong tax background and knowledge of tax rules, regulations, policies, and general accounting with problem solving and process improvement skills required.
• Requires analysis and judgment in accomplishing diversified duties and the exercise of independent thinking within the limits of policies and regulations.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Access database software for analyzing and forecasting required.
• Requires a “Can Do” attitude with the ability to manage multiple projects, produce high quality work within established timeframe with the ability to balance operational and
reporting deadlines.
• Provide excellent customer service skills with the ability to handle complex issues in a professional manner, exercising good judgment in dealing with sensitive issues.
• Ability to analyze and interpret external regulations and policies and translate them into compliant and efficient processes.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in business, Finance, Accounting, or related field strongly preferred.
• Five (5) years’ experience in supervision or management preferred.
•Experience in a large university or governmental/non-profit organization preferred.
• Banner and Sprintax systems experience a plus.
