Job Description:

Provide direction, leadership, and accountability for all Patient Access staff. Serves as a liaison between physicians, physicians' office staff, community, Patient Financial Services, Administration, hospital staff and the Patient Access Department. Optimize staff performance through process improvement, policy/procedure implementation, communication, outcome feedback and accountability. Responsible for scheduling and directing the workflow by distributing, monitoring, and prioritizing staff assignments. Monitor department and individual compliance with performance standards. Conducts relevant activities such as training, productivity monitoring, workflow observation, problem solving, quality improvement, coordinating/integrating efforts with other departments and external entities, and resolving team conflict/team building. Includes professional development and empowerment of staff, management of human, fiscal and other resources to promote desired outcomes with attention to quality, efficiency, and costs. Responsible for system oversight and management for the ADT system(s) and all other Patient Access system applications. Manages the development of key performance indicators used to establish baseline and future state operational metrics.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Minimum of 8 years progressive leadership experience in relevant healthcare setting with demonstrated success in Patient Access, Health Information Management, Finance, Patient Financial Services or Revenue Cycle.
2. Master’s Degree in accounting/finance, management or health-care related field required to include knowledge of healthcare administration, patient access, or related operations – OR – successful completion of CHAM (Certified Healthcare Access Manager) certificate.
3. Medical terminology proficiency required.
4. Ability to work collaboratively to make operational decisions as a group.
5. Ability to develop creative and effective initiatives and implementation strategies to improve Patient Access and/or Revenue Cycle methodologies.
6. Ability to work collaboratively with high performance team of professionals in partnership toward common objectives.
7. Ability to communicate and work with physicians, physician office personnel, associates, service line leadership, and others to expedite process related to Patient Access to avoid negative impacts on the enterprise.
8. Ability to manage numerous large projects simultaneously, through effective design, implementation and direction of programs that elicit desired outcomes on an organizational level.
9. Ability to handle a high stress and responsibility work environment with short deadlines, and numerous interruptions with a positive manner, establishing priorities for effective work completion.
10. Knowledge of Revenue Cycle aspects including but not limited to Preregistration, Precertification, Scheduling, Registration, Collection, claims submission & follow-up, reimbursement, refunds, and denials required.
11. Previous experience with software system development, implementation or upgrade in healthcare setting preferred.
12. Previous experience as trainer, facilitator, or mentor required, minimum 2 years’ experience.
13. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in both oral and written format.
14. Ability to deal with confrontation.
15. Work in a professional office environment with possible high stress levels
16. Ability to interpret customer requirements and recommend, design, and implement procedures for compliance with regulations and standards.
17. Effective critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills. Strong quantitative and analytical abilities to process and display data.
18. Demonstrated experience managing change and/or radical redesign of a major system, process, or system
19. Working knowledge of human resources principles and organizational skills required
20. Comprehensive understanding of the regulatory, legislative, economic, and labor challenges facing the healthcare industry, particularly with reimbursement and HIPAA compliance required.
21. Strong conflict resolution, consensus building, and service recovery skills required.
22. Strong people relations skills and the ability to manage and persuade others toward common objectives and help bring win-win solutions to problems.
23. Excellent human relations and oral/written and presentation skills required.
24. Strong leadership abilities and sound professional judgement required.
25. Knowledge of information systems and healthcare applications including but not limited to patient registration, scheduling, claims management or follow-up with experience in at least 1 major system conversion of patient related software.
26. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office, including but not limited to Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Word, and the like with the ability to manipulate data using the same.
