Job Description:

The Center Director of the JCCTR (Jacobson Center for Clinical and Translational Research) will provide leadership and operational management oversight for all College of Medicine and Life Sciences (COMLS), Health Science Campus (HSC), and University of Toledo (UToledo) clinical trials and translational research projects. Clinical trials and translational research projects will include industry-sponsored, federal government-sponsored, and/or investigator-initiated trials/projects that test/optimize new
drugs/treatments/therapies, human health studies, and/or patient care-related products and services. The Center Director will actively engage with COMLS, HSC, and UToledo faculty, physicians, patient care teams, clinical Departments/Divisions, UTMC administrators/staff, and other health care providers to promote and increase external funding for clinical trials and translational research projects. The Center Director will have previous experience with and an excellent working knowledge of obtaining external funding from industry sponsors (i.e., pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology companies), federal agencies (e.g., NIH, Department of Defense, Medicare, Medicaid), and private foundations. The Center Director also will have previous experience with and an excellent working knowledge of various reporting requirements for clinical trials and externally funded research projects. The Center Director will ensure that the JCCTR provides a framework to ensure that all clinical trials and translational research projects meet and maintain uniform data reporting requirements, maintain budgets, meet deadlines, operate efficiently, and deliver high-quality clinical trial and research project results. The ideal Center Director will be a faculty member who, while performing their primary duties in education, research, and clinical services, also will function as the Center Director of the JCCTR. In addition to the above duties, the Center Director also will be responsible for identifying basic science research findings that have the potential to receive external funding for additional pre-clinical testing or to be tested in Phase I/II/III clinical trials. The Center Director will work collaboratively with COMLS and HSC faculty/physicians to accomplish the overall goals of the JCCTR, including integrating the University's basic and clinical science programs, aligning University research with the NIH strategic plan for clinical and translational research, encouraging interdisciplinary collaborations between/among faculty/physicians, and enhancing the clinical and translational research enterprise at UToledo by focusing on high-yield projects with the greatest potential for significant breakthroughs. The Center Director will promote and advocate for clinical and translational projects by facilitating discussions between faculty/physicians and various UToledo stakeholders, including the UToledo Institutional Review Board (IRB), Office of Research & Sponsored Programs (ORSP), Ancillary Research Support Services (Pharmacy, Radiology, etc.), individual departments/divisions, as well as other investigators, coordinators, and research personnel to promote translational and clinical research and enhance the culture of research throughout the institution.

Minimum Qualifications:


MD, PhD, or MD/PhD with extensive research experience in clinical trial operations with ten plus (10 + ) years’ experience is required.
Track record of significant, ongoing independent extramural funding for clinical research.
Scholarly productivity in the form of peer-reviewed publications of clinical/translational research
A minimum of five (5) years of leadership experience required.
Must be able to work independently and make appropriate decisions.
Must have a positive and professional attitude.

Preferred Qualifications:

Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict management skills.
Excellent management and supervision skills.
Self-directed, with excellent organizational and problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to show responsiveness to fixed external deadlines and flexibility with work hours.
