Job Description:
Reporting to the Director of the Counseling Center, the Care Advocate and Mental Health Counselor provides counseling to the student population, case management and advocacy for basic needs and functioning, and referral, support and advocacy for sexual and gender-based violence (sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, stalking). In this role, the individual provides advocacy and assistance connecting to on and off campus resources and assisting to minimize the impact of violence and interruption on their academic and personal well-being through case management and coordination of care. This position works closely with other campus and community offices and resources including but not limited to the Office of the Dean of Students, Title IX, legal services, and the YWCA.
As a Mental Health Counselor, the individual provides services to meet the mental health needs of enrolled University of Toledo students, as well as consultation to university faculty, staff, alumni, and parents/guardians. This position is responsible for conducting initial screens for mental health services, face-to-face and/or teletherapy on-going individual/couples counseling, group counseling, crisis intervention services, outreach, mental health counseling and consultation services. This position also provides supervision for graduate level trainees in the mental health field (when appropriately licensed), as well as assistance with education and prevention related to mental health, wellness, and prevention. Occasional evening hours are required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education/experience/licensing:
1) Master’s Degree in counseling psychology, counselor education and supervision, or social work field preferred. Individual with bachelor level education in social work with appropriate LSW license eligible to apply.
2) Mental health clinical license required (LSW, MSW, LPC, LPCC, etc.)(Independent licensure in the mental health field with supervision status a plus ).
3) Master level Clinical counselor/social work individual must be independent license eligible within two years of hire. Psychology individual must have independent license status.
4) Licensure in Ohio: Obtained licensed by the State of Ohio Counselor, Social Work and Marriage and Family Therapist Board or Ohio Psychology Board. (If provisionally licensed must obtain permanent license within 60 days of hire).
5) 1 year clinical experience in a university counseling center or community mental health agency (required).
6) 30 hours of Continuing Education approved by Ohio Counselor, Social Work and Marriage and Family Therapist Board or Psychology Board every two years to maintain license.
7) Knowledge of university and community resources desirable.
