Job Description:

The University of Toledo Libraries seeks a dynamic and forward-thinking Emerging & AI Technologies Librarian to lead the integration of artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies into library services, instruction, and research support. This position will play a key role in advancing the university’s participation in the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) Institute on AI, Pedagogy, and the Curriculum, contributing to the development of ethical, inclusive, and innovative AI practices across campus. Start date for this position is August 2026.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Student Support
• Design and deliver workshops, course-integrated instruction, and learning resources focused on AI and emerging technologies.
• Collaborate with subject liaisons to design and deliver instructional materials related to AI and emerging technologies.
• Develop curricula that build students’ digital and AI literacy, aligned with the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy.
• Provide access to emerging technologies and ensure support for diverse learning needs.
• Incorporate experiential learning opportunities using immersive, data-driven, or interactive technologies to enhance student engagement and digital fluency.
• Serve as a liaison to one or more academic departments with responsibility for outreach, instruction, research consultation, collection development, and development of learning materials.
• Develop and maintain library guides and other online self-directed learning materials for unit and outreach areas.
• Participate in reference services, including in-person, phone, chat reference, and on-call.

Faculty & Researcher Support
• Collaborate with faculty on integrating AI tools into research and pedagogy and spearhead the exploration of new technology.
• Provide guidance on copyright, data privacy, and publisher policies related to AI.
• Consult on grant proposals, data management plans, and research projects that involve AI, or digital scholarship tools for such tasks as data visualization and text analysis.

Innovation & Technology Integration
• Lead the library’s exploration and implementation of emerging technologies, including AI, AR (Augmented reality), VR (virtual reality), and data visualization tools.
• Partner with campus units to coordinate campus-wide AI initiatives.
• Serve as a point of contact for campus stakeholders seeking emerging technology expertise.
• Develop and promote best practices for the ethical and inclusive use of these technologies in academic settings.
• Address issues of bias, misinformation, and accessibility in emerging technologies.
• Contribute to campus-wide policy discussions around AI adoption and responsible use.
• Evaluate and recommend emerging tools that enhance digital scholarship, data visualization, and knowledge creation across disciplines.

Professional Engagement & Service
• Engage in scholarship, professional development, and service at the university, regional, and national levels.
• Stay abreast of trends in AI and emerging technologies to anticipate campus needs.
• Contribute to the library’s overall strategic planning and innovation initiatives.
• Contribute to professional and campus discussions on the social, cultural, and ethical implications of emerging technologies.

Minimum Qualifications:

• ALA-accredited MS/MLIS or equivalent advanced degree.
• Demonstrated knowledge of AI tools and emerging technologies in academic or research settings.
• Experience with instruction, curriculum integration, or faculty collaboration.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Demonstrated potential to meet The University of Toledo’s criteria for tenure and promotion, including scholarly presentations and/or publications and service.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with digital scholarship, data visualization, or machine learning applications.
• Familiarity with copyright, intellectual property, and data ethics in relation to AI.
• Evidence of scholarship or professional engagement related to emerging technologies.
• Experience with grant writing or research support.
• Experience working with or assessing new technologies.
