Job Description:

This entry level role serves as the primary advisor to all academic programs assigned to them. They are to provide quality student customer service and academic advising for all enrolled students. Services provided can include but not limited to: Advising, career planning, mock interviews, test prep options, application essays, letters of recommendation, GPA assessments, plans of study, student record reviews, curriculum & program planning, progression & graduation, course registration, reviewing of transcripts, faculty resolution of academic problems/concerns, participation in orientation events and other student activities as needed. Works with minimal supervision on more difficult work assignments and confers with leader on unusual matters. Follow instructions and procedures and may set priorities and organize work within general guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree is required with master’s degree preferred.
     o Degree in Advising, Counseling, College Student Personnel, Student Affairs in higher education is preferred.
• Some experience in academic advising is required.
• Previous experience in working in a university environment is required.
• Knowledge, skills, and competencies required for this job include:
     o Good written and verbal communication required.
     o Critical thinking for creation of logic relative to system programming
     o Effective Decision-making and critical thinking skills required.
     o Must be meticulous and have ability to keep organized and accurate records.
     o Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required.
     o Demonstrated computer skills required including desktop publishing and the ability to create, analyze, and use report derived from            databases.
     o Understanding of curriculum process.
     o Must possess the ability to advocate for the student while maintaining integrity of academic programs.
     o Ability to understand, navigate, and run reports in BANNER or other student records systems required; previous experience with              these is strongly preferred.
     o High ethical standards and fairness required.
     o Ability to work in high pressure situations and multitask priorities required.
     o Work is generally supervised by leader with detailed instructions and procedures provided.
