Job Description:

The Locksmith 3 installs, repairs, rebuilds, and services mechanical or electrical locking devices, using hand tools and special equipment. Disassembles locks, such as padlocks, safe locks, and door locks, and repairs or replaced worn parts. Able to pin new or existing cores. Cuts new or duplicate keys using key cutting machine. Opens locks by drilling when necessary. Assists with records of locks and keys. The incumbent is responsible for meeting work schedules and service requests, by providing effective and efficient maintenance workmanship and leadership.

This position works under general supervision of the appropriate journeyman and/or the Manager of Structural Maintenance to perform skilled maintenance work.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must possess a High School diploma or equivalent GED required.
• Two (2) years’ trade school preferred.
• Must have a Locksmith Certification, BEST Small-format IC Core Certification, Master Keying Certification, and have Mechanical and Electrical Exit Device Certification.
• Must have at least three (3) years of hands-on experience in this field.
• Must possess verbal communication skills necessary to provide excellent customer service.
• Must possess valid driver’s license and insurability under UT driving policies required.
• Preferred certifications include: LCN Auto Operator and ADA; Von Duprin Exit Device/Power Supply Certification; Door Control/LCN Door Closer, and BEST 9K Cylindrical 45H.

• Verbal skills to communicate with staff, students, family members, and management.
• Verbal skills to communicate with other trades and work control.
