Job Description:
Performs services related to receiving, delivery and/or stocking of packages, supplies, equipment, and linen to designated areas as scheduled or requested throughout the hospital, clinics, college and other areas as assigned. Performs basic inventory control functions related to all supply areas. Other related duties as required.
- Expected to adhere to UTMC Service Values including iCare standards at all times.
- Adheres to hospital policies and procedures as well as addresses patient safety, performance improvement, and quality of care issues.
- Knowledgeable about patient safety and quality of care issues. Able to recognize safety issues in the department and handles incidents per institutional and/or departmental policies and procedures. If safety issues were identified; all issues were handled timely and appropriately.
- Attend and follow all department specific safety education and training in an effort to create a safe work environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education/experience/licensing:
• 1-2 years of inventory handling/warehouse environment experience preferred.
• Experience using a computer inventory management system and handheld technology preferred
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology preferred
• Working knowledge of Shipping, Receiving and Distribution processes preferred.
• Required to frequently lift 50 lbs., frequently pull carts weighing up to 500 lbs. and continuously push carts with supplies up to 500 lbs. If the employee is required to lift more than 50 lbs., the employer requires co-worker and/or mechanical assistance (frequently is defined as 34-66% of the time; continuous is defined as 67-100% of the time)
• Must be able to tolerate continuous periods of standing and walking.
• Must be a high school graduate with the ability to complete basic math. (Those hired into Delivery Worker Positions prior to the high school diploma requirement, are considered grandfathered).
• Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the UT driving/insurance policy.
• Must possess working knowledge of computer systems to include Outlook.
• Ability to read and write common vocabulary.
• Successfully complete on-line driver safety program
• Previous Hospital experience desired.
Communication and other skills:
• Ability to deal with problems involving several variables and resolve within the scope of assigned duties.
• Ability to take assignments and directives from management.
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
• Ability to communicate effectively with fellow employees, patients, vendors, students and the general public.
• Communications must be culturally appropriate, tactful and courteous.
• Maintains confidentiality with regard to departmental operational issues.
