Job Description:

As a member of the health care team, provides advanced management of nursing care during the supervision and conduction of exercise testing of adult patients at UTMC .Coordinates daily activities in the exercise laboratories. Advises and collaborates with physicians, nursing staff, other hospital departments and heart and vascular center personnel to provide safe and patient-centered care.

• Adheres to hospital policies and procedures as well as addresses patient safety, performance improvement, and quality of care issues.
1. Adheres to NPSG 09.02.01 by following the Morse Fall Scale to assess all patients for their risk of falling.
2. Adheres to NPSG 07.01.01 by effectively washing hands when going from one patient to the next.
• Knowledgeable about patient safety and quality of care issues. Able to recognize safety issues in the department and handles incidents per institutional and/or departmental policies and procedures. If safety issues were identified; all issues were handled timely and appropriately.
• Department education and training focus has a direct impact on patient safety and reduces unsafe working conditions for employees.
• Employee attends and follows all department specific safety education and training in an effort to create a safe work environment.
1. Recognizes Frayed Cord:
Reports equipment dysfunction in timely manner.
Make sure alternate process is in place and action is taken.
Reduces adverse results or impact to patient care and the employee.
2. Recognize exposure to Blood:
Worked as a team to limit exposure and create a safe work environment.
Safety concerns: The manager has been timely with staff training and education.
Wiping up spills.
3. Follows standardized approach for handoff communication
Follows policy for communication including the opportunity to ask and respond to questions

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualifications/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Education/experience/licensing:
1. Current R.N. licensure in State of Ohio.
2. MSN with current or eligible APRN (Advanced Practice Registered Nurse) licensure in State of Ohio with emphasis on adult cardiac nursing.
3. Experience in performing diagnostic exercise testing preferred.
4. Minimum of four years of experience in a coronary care unit or equivalent acute/critical care of adult patients with cardiac disease preferred.
5. Displays the ability to utilize expert intuition and critical thinking skills.
6. Must have ability to quickly recognize, identify and know treatment of cardiac dysrhythmias.
7. Must have knowledge of normal and basic abnormal 12-lead EKG findings.
8. Must be competent in the performance of cardiovascular and pulmonary history and physical examination.
9. ACLS training required (instructor status preferred).
10. AHA/CPR certification required in Basic Life Support Health Care Provider course as identified by the Heart and Vascular Center/Cardiology Clinic policy.

1. Demonstrates ability to work with self-direction and effectiveness under minimal supervision.
2. Has leadership ability to direct, coordinate, organize, set priorities, problem solve, make judgments and decisions in a prudent and timely manner.
3. Has flexibility to accommodate changes in priorities and operations.
4. Has the interpersonal skill to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, patients, physicians and the general public.
5. Must possess oral communication skills to obtain and convey information effectively with individuals of varying backgrounds with tack and diplomacy, and proper grammar and vocabulary.
6. Must possess written communication skills to convey information in a concise, logical, legible and accurate manner.
