Job Description:

The Department of Physics and Astronomy in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at the University of Toledo seeks to fill a 9-month non-tenure track Visiting Assistant Professor position. The department is home to the Ohio Wright Center for Photovoltaics Innovation and Commercialization (PVIC), Ritter Observatory, and Ritter Planetarium.

A PhD in physics or a closely related field is required, and teaching experience and familiarity with teaching best-practices is strongly preferred. The successful candidate will be expected to teach algebra and calculus based introductory physics courses in lecture and laboratory settings, as well as other courses depending upon department need and their expertise, over Fall and Spring semesters, maintain well-organized courses, apply teach pedagogy best-practices, and participate in limited related service activities such as course assessment.

The position is initially for one year and renewable for second and third years based on successful performance and availability of resources.

The starting date for this position will be August 1, 2024.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education/experience/licensing:
-PhD in Physics or a related field is required at minimum.


Communication and other skills:
-Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
-Teaching undergraduate (non-majors and majors) students in lecture and laboratory settings.
-Course organization including using appropriate technology requirements.
-Application of teaching pedagogy and best-practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Teaching experience and familiarity with educational-best practices is strongly preferred.
