Job Description:

The responsibilities of Core Faculty in Emergency Medicine go beyond shift coverage in the Emergency Department. Core Faculty are also required to assist in the education and evaluation of residents and medical students. In order to remain committed to teaching the next generation of health-care professionals, we need an adequate number of core faculty to participate in all educational activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

ABEM/AOBEM certified
Each Core faculty member is expected to complete a monthly evaluations on each resident (Emergency Medicine Residents and Off-Service Residents) through New Innovations within 2 weeks
Core Faculty must complete daily evaluations on medical students
Participate in medical student candidate interviews
Participate in candidate screening and interviewing for residency program
Mentoring residents and medical students
Participate in all resident educational activity (Simulation, cadaver lab, pig lab, etc.)
Participate in Faculty Development
Participate in resident Milestones
Attend core faculty meetings
Attend 50% of our Tuesday didactic sessions
Core Faculty will be excused from Tuesday Conference & Core Faculty Meetings when they have vacation time or when they are working clinically.
Assist in any resident activity on or off campus
Present 1-2 lectures monthly at Tuesday didactics/SIM cases
At the Program Director request core faculty members are required to produce their clinical schedules.
Core Faculty are to document; 15 hours per week of academic involvement.
May document one academic hour for every academic shift worked with UT EM residents with a maximum of 8 hours a week, the other 7 being academic
Must meet every 6 months with Program Director & Chair for a mandatory core faculty review
Sign off on procedures in New Innovations monthly
Will be assigned duties based on program needs
One piece of scholarly activity per year as per ACGME rule
One publication with pubmed every 3-5 years as per ACGME rule
Core physician faculty members must not work clinically more than 28 hours per week on average at the academic site, or 1344 hours per year, whichever is less (ACGME II B. 6.b)
Core Faculty will develop individual goals and objectives for each academic year; these will be reviewed with the program director and chairman annually
Core Faculty will spend most of their clinical activities at the main academic facilities.
Core Faculty will spend most of their clinical hours working with residents
Core Faculty are expected to complete annual ACGME Faculty Survey
