Job Description:

The Department of Surgery at the University of Toledo is recruiting a fellowship-trained breast surgical oncologist for a surgical faculty position, with a focus on building the breast surgical oncology program. The ideal candidate will work with our established multidisciplinary group of medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, diagnostic and interventional radiologists and will be invested at the Eleanor N. Dana Cancer Center at the University of Toledo Medical Center.

The ideal candidate will have a keen understanding of the latest surgical techniques in the evaluation, diagnosis, and management of patients with cancer and have a passion for meeting the needs of patients and their families during their cancer journey. The appointment track will be commensurate with experience at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, of Professor level through the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences. The successful candidate will be board-certified/board-eligible in Surgery and be eligible for licensure in the State of Ohio.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized patient treatment plans, in collaboration with an established multidisciplinary cancer care team to accurately assess patient needs and goals and develop an individualized treatment plan that meets those needs.
  • Perform surgical procedures, including but not limited to, the scope of breast surgery, including preoperative and postoperative care.
  • Utilize and promote approved standards of care, procedures, methods, techniques, safety precautions, and study protocols.
  • Engagement in Multidisciplinary Tumor Boards and the American College of Surgeon’s Commission on Cancer committee at UTMC. Collaborate with the UTMC-DCC High Risk Clinic for surgical considerations for risk reduction for patients at high risk of developing cancer.
  • Participate in clinical research, standard operating procedures, and study-specific procedures.
  • Participate in the education, training, and mentoring of medical students, residents, and fellows.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) from an accredited medical school
  • Board-certified or board-eligible in Surgery by the American Board of Surgery
  • Current medical license or ability to obtain a valid and unrestricted medical license in the State of Ohio
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team setting.
