The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences (UTCOMLS) seeks a full-time clinical psychologist faculty member to join our expanding academic and clinical enterprise. The position will be in the Clinical Educator tenure track line and primarily provide clinical services in the adult outpatient psychiatry clinic. We invite all areas of specialization and are particularly interested in candidates who demonstrate a strong commitment to evidence-based practice. The successful candidate will supervise, mentor, and teach psychiatric residents, psychology externs, and medical students. This position is responsible for providing comprehensive services to students, faculty, and staff on the University’s Health Science Campus as they pertain to the offices of Student Financial Aid, Registrar, Treasurer, Auxiliary Services and the College of Medicine Office of Student Affairs. This position’s responsibilities include but are not limited to: providing general financial aid counseling and advisement; researching student account inquiries and providing detailed information and explanations regarding tuition, fees and financial transactions for accounts receivable; performing audits on student accounts; processing standard registration non MD requests, enrollment certification requests, and on-demand transcript requests; training and processing I-9s for newly hired Student Affairs and Academic Enrichment Center student employees, COM MD degree audit review and advisement, answering phone calls, managing all walk-in traffic for the suite, managing email inquiries, assisting the College of Medicine Office of Student Affairs with various short term projects, and assisting with presentations and communications regarding university processes related to the Student Service Center and back offices for prospective students of all College Offices located on the Health Science Campus. This position requires significant cross-training and the ability to relate and explain the effects of processes of one operating office on those of another and how they impact our students and their respective account activity. This position, while able to serve the needs of all the university’s constituents, will have a targeted focus on students in the College of Medicine and Life Sciences and the policies under which they are governed.

Post Doctoral in Health Science Campus College
The University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences is looking for two Postdoctoral fellows in the Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology to work on National Institutes of Health (NIH) and EPA - funded projects study innate immune responses, particularly the interferon system, to protect against viral and non-viral diseases. The laboratory is interested in studying how the interferon system protects against virus infection. In this context, we are focusing on the key transcription factor Interferon Regulatory Factor 3 (IRF3), whose activities are required to inhibit viral replication in vitro and in vivo. We have shown that in addition to performing transcriptional functions, IRF3 also triggers direct apoptosis in virus-infected cells and the apoptotic pathway is critical for its antiviral activity (Glanz et al, Viruses 2020, Chattopadhyay et al Immunity 2016, J. Virol 2013, 2011, EMBO J 2010). We are interested to study, using knockout and knock-in mouse models, how this pathway regulates viral or non-viral diseases. IRF3, upon activation by virus infection, transcriptionally induces many antiviral genes, such as interferons and interferon stimulated genes (ISGs) (Chattopadhyay et al EMBO Rep 2015, mBio 2013). The protein products of these ISGs inhibit specific stages of viral life cycle, thereby inhibiting virus replication. Because all viruses cannot be inhibited by a single ISG, it is important to investigate virus-specific ISGs. Using high throughput screening approaches, we began to identify novel viral restriction mechanisms (Subramanian et al, JBC 2020, PLOS Pathogens, 2018).
