Title: Research Associate Department Org: Medicine - 107570 Employee Classification: N1 - Unclass Full Time HSC Bargaining Unit: Professional Staff Association Primary Location: HSC C Shift: 1 Job Description: The Kidney Research Lab established at the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences is recruiting multiple research associates to conduct research in interdisciplinary areas of Molecular Medicine broadly related to the pathogenesis of renal diseases. Successful candidates will be mentored by senior Faculty members within the Center for Hypertension and Personalized Medicine (http://www.utoledo.edu/med/depts/physpharm/hypertension_center/) for up to 3 years and will have competitive opportunities to transition into research or tenure-eligible faculty tracks within the various Departments of the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences. Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in areas related to translational glomerular and renal disease research relevant to whole-animal or human physiological systems required. Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate with other laboratory workers. Must be motivated and capable of working independently as well as collaboratively. Preferred Qualifications: PhD in areas related to translational glomerular and renal disease research relevant to whole-animal or human physiological systems preferred. M.D. background with expertise in nephrology and glomerular pathology is preferred.

The position reports directly to the CMO and the Chairman of the Department of Surgery and represents the College to internal and external constituents to promote, facilitate, and disseminate clinical, education and research activities. Expectations include teaching medical student, PA students, residents, APPS and nurses. The University of Toledo is an ACS-verified Level II Trauma Center. The Trauma Medical Director provides direction and supervision of the clinical components of the Trauma program including personnel. Supervises the care provided to patients admitted to the Trauma service and actively participates in the development and implementation of the trauma service treatment protocols, policies, procedures and objectives.

The primary responsibility of the Research Associate is to develop and conduct computational simulations to demonstrate the efficacy of a steady-state reaction device. This role requires expertise in computational fluid dynamics (CFD), thermomechanical analysis, and reactive species modeling. The incumbent will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-PI to formulate and implement changes to the computational models and redesign the primary reactor to achieve the desired results. This position is funded by an awarded contract to The University of Toledo by the Office of Naval Research, “Effusion Cooling for Hypersonic Ground Testing.”
