Job Description:
Under the general supervision of the Mechanical Maintenance Manager, oversees the operation of the steam power plant and related systems. Serves as lead worker (i.e. provides work direction & training) over lower-level steam plant workers in installation, repair, maintenance & operation of all associated steam plant equipment (e.g., boilers, other fuel burning equipment, blowers, flow meters, pumps, generators, fans, pollution control equipment, chemical feed equipment, air compressor equipment, etc.).
This position is responsible for powerhouse safety practices; must be skilled in operating and maintaining all boiler and boiler related auxiliary equipment. Responsible for recognizing unusual or threatening conditions and take appropriate emergency action; understands steam plant procedures; calculates fractions, decimals and percentages; and maintains accurate records.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Must possess a High School Diploma equivalent GED.
• Licensed as Ohio Third-Class Stationary Steam Engineer or equivalent license from another State.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience while holding above mentioned license.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in supervisory capacity preferred
• Knowledge of safety practices associated with operation of power plant; supervisory principles/techniques; stationary engineering; power plant operation.
• Skill in operation and maintenance or power plant and related equipment.
• Ability to understand practical field of stationary engineering, writing instructions and reports relating to plant maintenance and power generating equipment.
• Employees are required to stand, walk, climb, and bend for long periods of time. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., works well with hands, and work with close tolerance. Ability to climb ladders and stairs.
• Must possess valid driver’s license and insurability under UT driving policies required.
• Skill in the use of tools and equipment used in mechanical maintenance.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions, to accurately record indicator readings and to perform work independently.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiple and divide.
• Ability to work cooperatively with others, solve technical problems, and read technical documents is required.
• Ability to use computers and computer systems to review operating data, error information, and make changes to boiler settings.
Communication and other skills:
• Must possess verbal communication skills necessary to provide excellent customer service.
• Must possess verbal skills to communicate with other trades and work control.
