Fostering Literate Youth (FLY) Program Seeking Literacy Tutors: At Old Orchard Elementary School (grades 4-8) $20/hr. Fall Session: October 10, 2022 – December 15, 2022 Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 3:00pm to 5:00 pm Academic Year: Mondays – Thursdays, 3:00 – 5:00pm Fall Session: Oct. 10 – Dec. 15, 2022 Spring Session: Jan. 17 – Feb. 23 & March 20 – April 28, 2023 Responsibilities include: • Assessing 4th-8th grade students to determine literacy strengths and challenges • Planning and enacting literacy tutoring sessions based on students’ interests and needs • Communicating with parents/caregivers and students’ classroom teachers • Creating “FLY packs” – weekly take-home materials • Maintain a growth mindset toward student learning and teaching practice • Facilitate problem-solving with a curious mind and critical thinking skills • Collaborate effectively with parents and the program leadership team to increase student performance Requirements and skills • Successful completion of CI 3430 or 3440 or equivalent 3-credit hour phonics class and completion of CI 4470 (Literacy Assessment & Remediation) or equivalent (e.g., CI 6430) • Patient, flexible, positive, consistent, dependable and cooperative with a sense of humor • Ability to take supervision and correction constructively • Ability to positively supervise students • Capacity to continue tutoring during the academic year (after school hours) preferred • Background check (will be paid for by the program) For questions, please email susanna.hapgood@utoledo.edu
