Job Description:
Pursuant to Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 and the U.S. Department of Education’s implementing regulations at 34 C.F.R. Part 106, The University of Toledo’s Title IX Investigator, has the primary responsibility for assisting the Director, Title IX & Compliance in investigating claims involving the University’s efforts to comply with and carry out its responsibilities under Title IX, which prohibits sex discrimination and sexual harassment in all operations of this University, as well as retaliation for the purpose of interfering with any right or privilege secured by Title IX. The responsibilities also include supporting the Manager of Title IX Compliance, Prevention and Assessment in training efforts related to sexual misconduct.
The Title IX Investigator is responsible for conducting inquiries, and formal investigations for allegations of sex discrimination, sexual harassment, and retaliation from students, faculty, and staff. The Title IX Investigator will assist the Director, Title IX & Compliance, with the development and implementation of Title IX training and education, including the development of training materials. The Title IX Investigator may need to substitute for the Director, Title IX and Compliance, when the Director or Associate Director is not available.
The Title IX Investigator is also responsible for assisting with analyzing data and statistics to provide timely and accurate reports for internal and external use.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education/experience/licensing:
• Bachelor’s degree in education, Social Services, Business Administration, Legal, or related field
required.
• Three to five (3 -5) years of professional experience with two (2) years specifically in conducting
investigations.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint required.
• Experience and proficiency in Maxient preferred.
• Experience in higher education preferred.
• Specialized training in Title IX investigation (ATIXA Investigator Level 2 training or better) preferred.
• Conflict Resolution experience preferred.
Communication and other skills:
• Ability to prioritize and work within tight deadlines.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to collaborate with others.
• Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently both verbally and in writing with individuals at
all levels of the University.
• Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.
• Sound strategic thinking and consulting skills in guiding the campus toward workable strategies and
solutions in the area of complaint resolution procedures and practices.
• Experience conducting sensitive, neutral "fact finding" interviews with complainants, respondents and
witnesses in cases with emotionally charged fact patterns
