Job Description:

The Sponsored Programs Management Specialist manages the development of research and special project proposal submissions and contracts with federal, state, foundation and private sponsors (funding sources). The Specialist independently interacts with funding agencies, faculty, and staff to resolve guideline, grant management, and proposal issues to ensure compliance with agency, institutional and governmental regulations for submissions and awards. Coordinates required certifications associated with proposal submissions from the appropriate organizational committees such as the Institutional Review Board and the Institutional Animal Use and Care Committee; manages completion sponsors required approval letters; and inclusion of required institutional data or documentation. The Specialist ensures completion of non-financial post-award activities such as obtaining final statements/reports from principal investigators (PIs) and key personnel; ensuring submission of reports to the appropriate agency; and assists in transfer of awards for relocating researchers.
The Specialist provides analysis and guidance in the review and interpretation of opportunity announcement documents and exhibits independent problem-solving skills for issues/problems with grant submissions. The Specialist works under the direction and oversight of the Director of Sponsored Programs to review basic proposal and award terms and conditions. The Specialist corresponds with sponsor agency program officials regarding post submission requirements and assists in award negotiations.

Minimum Qualifications:

Exhibits professional demeanor and demonstrated excellence in oral and written communications.

Bachelor’s degree (four-year degree) in accounting, finance, business, mathematics or relevant field, and one year of experience in accounting, grants or research administration or related field. One year of relevant experience (i.e. in research administration, finance or accounting) may be substituted for every one (1) year of educational degree attainment, for up to two years of the educational requirement.

Exhibits ability to read and interpret federal regulations, guidelines and statutory language.

Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, and ability to learn and use software systems such as InfoEd, IRB Manager and any other software required by the position.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

Ability to work independently and in group settings. Ability to keep information confidential.
