Job Description:

This position is to work with faculty members and provost office staff in preparing grant proposals to external agencies. The individual is expected to meet with members of the faculty and members at the University to identify appropriate funding agencies.

The Grants Writer is to work with the designated faculty and//or staff member in reviewing drafts of proposals and improving the presentation in line with agency requirements. The Grant Writer is to help make the proposal a compelling document, absent of grammatical or formatting errors, with a clear explanation of the importance of the project, the project plan, and the value to the agency.

The Grant Writer will also prepare and review other documents and reports for the department as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education/experience/licensing:
• Bachelor’s degree in field with technical writing training such as English, Social Sciences, Engineering or other Sciences required.
• Two (2) years of experience in grant writing or related writing profession required.
• Must provide high-quality writing samples (not necessarily grant proposals)

Communication and other skills preferred:
• Excellent writing skills
• Ability to work with diverse faculty members in a professional and supportive manner under time pressure.
• Ability to work independently.
• Demonstrated presentation skills and experience.
• Proficient in software programs for technical document and presentation.
• Proficient in using on-line programs for grant submission.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Expertise and experience in biological or medical sciences preferred.
• Experience in grant writing or related writing profession preferred.
