Job Description:
The University of Toledo (UToledo) seeks a collaborative and seasoned human resources professional to serve as its next Senior Associate Vice President for Human Resources and Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO). As a key leader on campus, the CHRO will provide strategic direction for the human resources functional areas and will be instrumental to the development and demonstration of methods to create cultural transformation.
UToledo desires a savvy HR leader who possesses a sophisticated ability to drive organizational effectiveness across the academic and clinical functions. The CHRO will be an innovative, transparent and strategic professional who will ensure that faculty and staff are engaged, motivated and invested in UToledo’s mission. As a proactive problem-solver, the CHRO will develop and apply best practices to reinforce UToledo’s role as an employer of choice in northwest Ohio. Significant experience in higher education, healthcare and/or public sector human resource management, as well experience in partnering with collective bargaining units, will be essential.

Minimum Qualifications:
Qualifications/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
-Master’s Degree plus commensurate experience required.
-Significant experience (10+) in higher education, healthcare, and/or public sector human resource management with progressive work history is required.
-Minimum of 5+ years executive-level experience required.
-Demonstrated experience in organizational redesign and reengineering required.
-Experience in successfully negotiating, public sector, collective bargaining agreements and partnering with collective bargaining units required.
Communication and Other Skills:
-Effectively able to work collaboratively with Senior Administration, faculty, and staff.
-Superior analytical and execution skills in all human resource disciplines that will allow one to evaluate HR issues as they arise and offer alternatives and solutions.
-Expert knowledge of organizational development issues and processes to provide leadership in the implementation of retention and development programs throughout the University.
-Direct experience in the design and utilization of compensation and total rewards programs with an impact on cost reduction while still maintaining the program as a valuable retention and recruitment tool.
-Ability to recognize and implement industry best practices and advise the senior leadership to affect operational and cultural change.
-Direct experience in the evaluation and use of technology to deliver HR support in a transaction driven environment.
-Excellent interpersonal skills.
-A focus on customer service excellence with multiple audiences (administration, faculty, staff, and students).
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
-Knowledge of current human resources policies and practices.
-Collaborative, team-oriented mindset.
